March Goals

So I figured I should probably do a goals post for this blog. I'm not entirely sure all that I'm going to put on it, but okay, here goes nothing:

1. Finish watching "The X-Files" Season 10. This HAS to get done this month, or else I have to wait until it is released on DVD. It actually has to get done before my daughter's birthday. That's when all the episodes disappear from OnDemand.
Currently: 2/6 watched

2. Read. I'm currently reading Deck Z. I've been reading it for a while. I just need to actually finish it! Plus it's a library book, so it will eventually need to be returned to the library. I HATE that I have to "abandon" books because they are due, but sometimes that happens.

3. Post here a little more regularly. Yeah, I haven't posted a whole lot in February, okay, once. I really want to change that. I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to post about at this moment, but finishing season 10 would help, that's for sure!

4. Keep up with my Bullet Journal. Yes, I have started Bullet Journaling. I actually like it! It allows me to keep everything all in one place! I hope to post about it soon!

5. Reread and prep for Camp! I signed up to do CampNaNoWriMo for April. I have no idea why. Maybe because I REALLY would like to finish SOMETHING! I'm going to be working on my NaNo from 2014 and hopefully finishing it.

That's about it for here, I think.

Perfect 10!

I know I've been talking a lot about The X-Files on this blog. Kinda hard not to when they have a 6-episode event going on! But two of the other things I "geek" are gymnastics and the Florida Gators! The great thing about this is that the University of Florida has a gymnastics team!

Here's a few cool things about collegiate level gymnastics:

1. They still use the old 10.0 rating scale.
This makes my little gymnastics loving heart happy. Now, not all collegiate level gymnastics still use this scale. For some reason, the men's gymnastics uses the new (confusing) scale. But not women's gymnastics. So this means that the gymnasts can be "perfect."

And this is what happened THREE TIMES this past week when Florida went up against Alabama!

Photo from the Gator Gymnastics Twitter: @GatorsGym
2. The gymnasts come from ALL over!
Point being: Bridget Sloan. She's a former Olympian and a World Champion! This year, Bridget's Senior, and final year as a Gator, is looking like it will be her best one yet! She's won EVERY All Around competition she's competed in so far this year!

3. National Championships!
Their National Championship is called the "Super Six." It's kinda complex in the way that it works out. Definitely NOT like the whole bracket system basketball (and now football) uses. But essentially, this is what it is (for the teams anyway, there's also individual all around and event specialists in the mix):

  • 36 teams total will compete in 6 regional competitions, each competition consisting of 6 teams. They are chosen by their regional qualifying score. (CRAZY weird to figure out, but there are rankings involved and all of that too!)
  • The top 2 teams at each of the regional competitions will advance to the 2 day National Championship. So from 36, down to 12.
  • Two semi-final rounds are held on the first day of competition. The top 3 teams from each semi-final advance to the final day of competition, the "Super Six." And then it's based upon the cumulative scores from the top 5 scoring gymnasts per team per event. School with the highest total at the end of the night wins.
So those are my biggies about gymnastics. Oh, and speaking of National Championships: Florida has won the LAST THREE!

Yes, you will see things OTHER than The X-Files on here. Just thought I'd throw that out!

Blogger Problems

Oh do I have a lot of them it seems!

Problem #1: Time! This is a HUGE problem of mine. I don't usually have a whole lot of time to post or make graphics or anything like that. I've found that if I can do it in small increments though, things go better. I've also found that I can schedule posts on Blogger! YAY! This makes things GREAT for me! I'm able to write posts ahead of time and schedule them to post.

Problem #2: Forgetfulness! Okay, maybe not forgetfulness, but sometimes I just "forget" I have a blog (or 2). But I've found that by getting social with Facebook groups and stuff, I tend to post more! It's like they hold me accountable in some way. Not that they are breathing down my neck "did you post?" or anything but they have challenges (like this #bloggerPJparty one) and things like that to keep me posting!

Problem #3: Content! I'm not out to change the world with my blog posts. Quite the opposite. I'm out to just share things. Maybe they get read, maybe they don't. I'm not really concerned about it. I just want to get stuff out of my brain! And maybe someone else will have the same thoughts as me.

So those are my top 3 Blogger Problems. What are yous?

It's a Conspiracy!

It's a conspiracy, I tell you!

I have yet to see the new "X-Files" episode.

There's a good reason for that. I had to go get the kids last night and then get them to bed. By the time this was accomplished, I was too tired to try and see if the episode was OnDemand yet. So I went to bed and decided I would try to watch it at some point during the day today. I knew that would be difficult because trying to watch anything that isn't a kid's show when any one of the kids is home is SO difficult!

Then I saw THIS posted on "The X-Files Facebook Page:

Yes! They had released it online for FREE!

So I sat down to watch it.

Yep, coffee in hand on my new computer. Now here's where the conspiracy comes in. Got through the teaser, the title sequence and was ALMOST through the first act. But the moment we see an REAL LIVE ALIEN on the TV, Shockwave decides to crash! WHAT??????

Okay, no biggie. I just restarted Shockwave, and went back to the link. After interacting with an ad (versus watching 2 and a half minutes of ads), I was able to jump back to just about where I was! Yay technology!

But then AT THE SAME SPOT Google Chrome decided to stop working! WHAT???????? This is a conspiracy, I tell you!

I guess I will go do laundry and go the grocery store and hope that I can watch it later on the actual television. Maybe the kids will play quietly somewhere in the house so I can do that....

Favorite Link Up

Today's theme for the #bloggerPJparty posts is "Favorite Link Up"

I haven't done a whole lot of link ups with this blog yet. Probably because I don't have a whole lot of content that's current yet. But I DO have a favorite weekly link up, we a couple actually.

1. California Bloggers -- This is a Facebook group. And since I live in California, it's perfect for me! Every Monday, the owner Gina, from California Scrappin' posts a round up post where we can post all our links for the week there.

2. Bloggy Brunch

It is ALWAYS on Sunday and is hosted by Hodge Podge MomentsBe a Warrior Queen, and The Petite Mrs. And the best thing about this link up is it doesn't have to be a current post! It can be ANY post that hasn't been linked up before! YAY! I totally plan on linking some posts from this blog up. Just have to get content going first.

So those are my favorite link ups. What are yours? I'm always looking for ways to get my blog out there!

The X-Files Season 6, Disc 1

Just finished watching "The X-Files" Season 6, Disc 1. So here's my impressions:

The Beginning
Okay, let's kind of continue from where the movie left off. (See, this is why I watched "Fight the Future" in between Season 5 and Season 6!) But at the same time, let's introduce characters you LOVE to HATE!

Character #1: Agent Spender. He's CSM's son! That right there kinda makes you want to SMACK him upside the head. AND then all the crap he pulls with Mulder and taking over his office and stuff just makes you HATE him even more!

Character #2: AD Kersh. Scully and Mulder get reassigned and now report to AD Kersh. In subsequent episodes you learn to hate him more because he's obviously out to keep Mulder and Scully from the X-Files.

Character #3: Agent Fowley. You're never really sure if Mulder and her had a thing at one point or not. But she's "supposedly" there to protect Mulder's work on the X-Files. Eh. Not sure if I believe her or not.

Drive
Eh, I can take or leave this episode.

Triangle
This episode is like PERFECT! It's shot in single camera long shot format. Essentially it's like 4 extremely long shots, no breaks, nothing. The camera follows the characters. A lot of shows are doing this now, but I LOVE that The X-Files was one of the first to do single camera!

Also, it had some of the BEST shots ever!

1. Scully kisses Skinner. Not romantically or anything, just in appreciation and the like.
2. Mulder kisses Scully. Okay, it's 1939 Scully and not current day Scully, but still! And then she punches him!

And it had one of the best lines ever too!

Mulder: I love you.
Scully: Oh brother...

*sigh*

Dreamland I
Okay, part 1 isn't as good as part 2, and sadly I have to wait until disc 2 get part 2! That just sucks! But one of the characters looks familiar because I've seen him in "CSI: Miami," "CSI" AND "Criminal Minds." Michael B. Silver plays Howard Gordin in this episode (and part 2). But I do love David Duchovny dancing as Morris Fletcher and the faces he makes! JUST great!

Okay, so that's my bit about disc 1. Can't wait for disc 2!

In Real Life....

In Real Life...

I am a mom. I have two kids. One is gifted, about to turn 6 years old in kindergarten at a charter school. The other has special needs and likely is also gifted and in preschool.

I would love to read more, write more, actually WATCH the DVDs I have purchased but are still wrapped in their original packaging.

In Real Life...

I'm single. I have no interest in dating anyone.

In Real Life...

I am college educated. I am also on public assistance. We also live with my mom. Without it, we would be homeless.

In Real Life...

I attend church regularly and even help out in Sunday school.

This is my blog. My escape from reality for a little bit. It is my favorite things. The things I enjoy but sometimes don't have time to.

Introduction

I figured I'd better introduce myself because some of you may not know who I am or what this blog is about.

Me: I'm a single mom of two kids.

I Geek: sci-fi shows (Star Trek, The X-Files, Fringe, Almost Human, Star Crossed, Roswell to name a few), reading, writing, Backstreet Boys. There's probably a few other things I geek, but those are the biggies.

Yes, this blog will be the place where I "geek out." I used to have a LiveJournal, but after finding that I had this blog and it was going unused, I figured I'd better use it. And it will allow me to share my fandoms, fangirling, and general geeking out episodes with all of you!

Currently, there are a couple things that will probably be MAJOR themes:

The X-Files! Surprisingly, it is getting a 6 episode run at the end of this month! (Actually, in 4 days to be exact!) So I'll be MAJORLY geeking out on that show for a while! PLUS, I am trying to finish watching the series. Yeah, I'm NOT going to make it before the premiere of the new 10th "mini" season, but who cares! It's ALWAYS fun to go back and see old episodes!

Star Trek! This will probably become more prevalent later in the summer and early fall. Why???? Because the series will be 50 years old!!!!! AND in January of 2017, there is supposed to be a new series coming out. We'll see what happens about that!

Other than those two things right now, I can't see much on the horizon, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Geeking Out to The X-Files

Hey all! This blog is back! It's going through a revamp, so please bear with me as I change some things around.

So I thought I'd start out with one of my favorite topics as of late: "The X-Files." Did you hear? It's coming back the end of the month!

Yeah, I am trying to contain myself over this! Granted, I'll probably have to watch it all OnDemand as trying to watch ANYTHING that ISN'T "Paw Patrol," "PJ Masks" or "Doc McStuffins" when the kids are home would mean I would actually have to be abducted by aliens to do so.

So what am I doing while I wait?

Trying to catch up on episodes.
Fox did this 201 Days of X-Files where you watched an episode a day for 201 days leading up to the premiere. Sadly, they left out the two movies, so it really should have been 203 days, but who's counting. Being I still use DVD through Netflix, I'm only up to starting on season 6. (Did you know they actually changed the name to "DVD.com"? Thankfully no backlash like the "Qwickster" fiasco a few years ago!) Yeah, I don't think I'm going to make it to watching ALL of them before the premiere.

And this is sad to me. Why? Because I OBVIOUSLY MISSED SOMETHING HUGE! See, I quit watching somewhere around season 7 or so. I think it was when David Duchovny left. Sure, I caught a random episode here and there, but I wasn't really "into" it any more. I think it was because I was in college and life was CRAZY in college! So how do I know I missed something huge? Because of THIS video:

So, even though I don't think I'll catch up before the premiere on January 24th, I think I'll be okay, just a little lost!

Reading
Yes, I am trying to read a new "X-Files" collection that was put out last year. I haven't read a whole lot in it and actually am going to restart it. But it's a collections of shorts. I can't wait to actually get into it! I know the first one in the book is written by a Brit. How do I know? Well, I read his mini-bio, but also some of the phrasing he uses is not American, and being Mulder and Scully are based out of Washington, DC, there are just little things that stick out to me. It's really no big deal!

There's also a few graphic novels I'd like to find as well. The X-Files: Season 10 and 30 Days of Night: The X-Files. Both of these were recommended to me by a fellow X-Phile, Natalie Patalie. Again, likely won't find them before the start of the new six episode series, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Again, reading is something that I think I would have to be abducted by aliens to actually get it done!

Coloring
Yes, you read correctly! Coloring. Back in August, The X-Files Official Twitter released the following "coloring" page. Thanks to Natalie, she found a couple more here and here. These are all free. There's also a few on etsy, if you really want to pay for them.

Stalking Instagram
Okay, there's really only ONE Instagram I'm stalking, and she's kinda slowed down lately, but just going back and checking out her photos is AMAZING! She made Mulder's office at 1:12 scale! It's pretty awesome. You should check out The Miniature X-Files Office.

So this is what I'm doing while I bide my time until the 24th. Then I'll probably end up binge watching all 6 episodes after they air because of kids and the aliens NOT abducting me so I can watch it live. Any other X-Phile's out there? What are you doing while you wait?
